Updated on Fri, 2020-11-06 11:08. Originally created by marr on 2020-09-16 08:14.https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 14:30 (GMT), duration : 00:00
- Need discussion: a request of 100T disk space on RCF to host them. Are PWGs interested in analyzing these data?
- They are currently hosted on pwg_task (30T) and HLT machine (70T). The disk space on HLT machine needs to be freed to support 2021 running.
- These data were produced online with sub-optimal calibration, so cannot be used for preliminary or final physics results
- If granted, the 100T likely needs to come from RCF disk space that is currently used for data production. This will mean less buffer space and possibly more interruptions.
Conclusions: it was suggested by several conveners to keep only a fraction of the express production on disk to be used by analyzers. CFV and CF PWGs will bring up this topic for discussion in their weekly meetings next week. Currently, 30T of such production reside on pwg_task disk (/gpfs01/star/pwg_tasks/tfg02) and can be accessed by analyzers.
2) Small system event activity meeting: Nov. 10th 10am - 12pm
3) Isobar production has started last week. Run17 pp 510 GeV production paused.
4) Remove data on pwg_tasks
- "2016 AuAu200 FMS miniTree": green light from HF
- "2015 Jet ALL embedding private production": feedback from Cold QCD?
Conclusions: "2016 AuAu200 FMS miniTree" will be removed from pwg_task disk. ColdQCD conveners will follow up on the removal of the 2015 Jet ALL private embedding sample.
5) MuDst and PicoDst replacement. Please respond before Nov. 9th.
ii) Replace MuDst with PicoDst
- AuAu200_production_2011: 92% of PicoDst (SL19c) available on DD
Conclusions: no objections raised so far. We will proceed with the replacement and removal starting from Nov. 9th.

STAR PWGC meeting
Updated on Fri, 2020-11-20 13:16. Originally created by marr on 2020-09-16 08:14.https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 14:30 (GMT), duration : 00:00
Conclusions: Jiangyong presented studies of a potential issue in using refMult or gRefMult as the centrality classifier. The issue arises from low TPC tracking efficiency in high occupancy events, which can artificially shift central events to mid-central centrality class, and so on. This potential issue could be present in all 200 GeV Au+Au data sets beyond 2010. PWGs are suggested to follow up on this issue and assess potential impacts on published and ongoing analyses.
2) HLT express production of PicoDst files for Run19 and Run20. A complete list can be found here: LIST
Conclusions: for the purpose of establishing codes and exploring new physics, the convener panel suggests to save 10% of all datasets and 100% of a few selected datasets. The latter will be discussed further.
3) Data production (priority list)
- Daq: Isobar production expected to be finished in ~ two months
- MuDst->PicoDst: add 2010 AuAu 200 and 2012 UU 193 GeV to the list
Conclusions:
- It was suggested to add some trigger data information to PicoDst files when producing 2010 AuAu 200 GeV and 2012 UU 193 GeV datasets, as they are needed for some analyses. Analyzers will get in touch with Grigory about what quantities need to be added.
- LFSUPC, CF and FCV PWGs will revisit the production priority list for Run19-20 BESII datasets
4) Analysis meeting
- Time: January 6-8 (Wed-Fri), 9-11 am BNL time
- Format
-- Jan. 6-7: 8 talks, 30 minute each, for cross-PWG topics
-- Jan 8: PWG reports or highlights of an analysis by a member, 20 minutes each.
Conclusions: conveners generally agree with the proposed time and format. PAC will work on the agenda.
5) Feedback
- Efficiency correction issue in off-diagonal cumulants
- Proton feed-down for BES-I baryon number ratio vs. collision energy
Conclusions:
- The issue in efficiency correction has been understood by the PAs. New correction procedure is developed and presented to PWG. Currently working on the systematic uncertainties. PAs will write an erratum for the paper.
6) Upcoming conferences

-- Incoming co-convener: Qinghua Xu, Maria Zurek
-- Outgoing co-convener: Carl Gagliardi
- LFSUPC
-- Incoming co-convener: Md. Nasim
-- Outgoing co-convener: Wangmei Zha
3) Agenda for analysis meeting: TENTATIVE AGENDA
Conclusions: conveners generally agree with the tentative agenda.
4) Data production discussions: priority
i) Discussion of production priority for Run19-20 data sets
ii) New request: pp500_production_2013, P14ia, st_physics and st_physics_adc, MuDst
- Run list: /star/u/agibson/2013Pi0s/2020-December-Run13PeriodWishList.txt
iii) Isobar embedding
- Request page: 20201503
- Details:
-- pi+/K+/p and pi-/K-/anti-p/in 200 GeV Run18 Isobar (half Zr+Zr/ half Ru+Ru) MB
-- Number of events: 14M (5M for each for pi+, pi- and 1M each for K+/K- and proton/antiproton) for pT=[0-5] + 30k (for all particles) for pT=[5-20] GeV
-- which would be a total of 14180000 events.
-- No split in centrality - embedding in minbias data
Conclusions:
i) Discussions about the production priority are ongoing among interested PWGs
ii) Since the requester might only have manpower in the next two months, it was agreed that the request will be put at a high priority
iii) LFSUPC PWG will check whether the embedding request put forward by the JetCorr satisfies their needs
5) HLT express production of PicoDst files for Run19 and Run20. What data sets do we want to keep? A complete list can be found here: LIST
Conclusions: it was agreed upon that 10% of each dataset and 100% of a few selected dataset will be kept on RCF. For the latter, a list of such datasets will be proposed by interested PWGs.

NOTES
2) Feedback for running collider mode during CeC with single beam energy 26.5 GeV/u
- Run 20: 300M fixed-target data during CeC
- Au+Au @ 53 GeV: in 2017, we took 800 M events parasitically during 3-week of CeC running. In Run 21 and 22, PAC approved 2+2 weeks of CeC. We now have iTPC, eTOF, EPD, which were not there in 2017.
Conclusions: in 2017, we took 54.4 GeV data for 3 weeks continuously and CeC is running parasitically with STAR data taking. In 2020, CeC was running in chunks of 16 hours, and they dictate the schedule. Therefore, Run20 event counts is probably a better guidance since CeC in Run21 and 22 will be run similarly to Run20. In sprit of this, it is probably more realistic to use 300M+300M events as a guidance for the next two years of running along with CeC. Precise projection is difficult since CeC has a higher priority.
FCV: interests expressed for both fixed-target and collider running even though there is slightly more interest in collider mode
HF: 53 GeV data would allow to measure Raa and v2 for Jpsi and HF electrons with the additional detectors
LFSUPC: collider data will push spectrum measurements to lower pT while more fixed-target data will benefit for example hyper-nucleus studies.
PWGs will continue the discussion in the coming week.
3) Call for volunteers
- Task force for tuning PYTHIA8 (HF, JetCorr, SPIN)
- Task force for evaluating tracking efficiency uncertainty (1 per PWG if interested)
- Plan to set up mailing lists for task forces, so people who are not in the task force but interested in the discussion can subscribe.
Conclusions: conveners will bring this call to PWGs
4) Upcoming conferences:
- DNP Oct. 29 - Nov. 1: please remind presenters to give regular updates if they want to show new results and send talks to PWG 2 weeks (Oct. 15) before the conference starts and to star-talks 1 week before (Oct. 22)

Analysis note: NOTES
2) Feedback for running collider mode during CeC with single beam energy 26.5 GeV/u
- Lijuan: 1B is probably a good guidance for the 2021+2022 statistics (2017: 4/3*800M ~ 1.07B, 2020: 28/9*317M ~ 0.986B)
- HF: 53 GeV data would allow to measure Raa and v2 for Jpsi and HF electrons with the additional detectors
- LFSUPC: collider data will push spectrum measurements to lower pT while more fixed-target data will benefit for example hyper-nucleus studies.
- Jiangyong:
-- New physics opportunity opens up for longitudinal dynamics study which is one of main reason we argue for STAR run beyond 2022. 54.4 GeV is the only energy beside 200 GeV that allow us to study the beam energy dependence (any other energy 19GeV and below would be too low for this physics). This energy would be also valuable for the CME searches where the QGP should still be present. sPHENIX has no plan for such energy, so that is something STAR can do uniquely.
-- We can use this data to understand the performance and evaluate the physics potential for the 200 GeV run in sPHENIX era (The event multiplicity would be not too much lower).
Conclusions: most of the PWGs either prefer the collider mode or do not have a strong opinion. Here are details:
HF: prefer collider mode; Raa and v2 for Jpsi and HF electrons
FCV: prefer collider mode; longitudinal dynamics, CME search
LFSUPC: prefer collider mode; dielectron, low pt spectrum, UPC physics
JetCorr: no opinion
CF: will discuss through emails
3) It was concluded that one cannot produce blinded Isobar data, as requested by ABC and GPC, on Cori. The decision is to produce Isobar data on RCF with a large fraction of CPU allocated to it. Will follow up on whether one can move Run17 pp 510 GeV production to Cori.
Conclusions: if Run17 pp 510 GeV data production can be moved to Cori, the ColdQCD PWG prefers to pick up the latest BEMC calibration, which requires a change of chain options and maybe new production tag. This would mean that analyzers would need to analyze two productions to obtain the full statistics. If the data set will continue to be produced at RCF with reduced CPU share, they should be produced as they are now, i.e. latest BEMC calibration is not included, to avoid overhead. ColdQCD PWG would also like to submit W and Z embeddings for this dataset with high priorities. More discussions on this will follow.
4) Timeline HepData data tables preparation
- Current: before collaboration review
- Proposal: before announcement to RHIC. PAs can prepare these data tables while waiting for collaboration comments
Conclusions: conveners agree with the proposal, which will be implemented immediately.
5) pAu collisions: centrality, high/low event activity
- How to deal with underlying quantities: signal saturation; vz and luminosity calibration
- Can we agree upon a global procedure: BBC inner vs. outer vs. all; high/low BBC cut values; centrality definitions
Conclusions: conveners agree that this effort would benefit STAR as a whole. As a starter, a dedicated centrality meeting will be held to have overview presentations from relevant PWGs (HF, ColdQCD, JetCorr, FCV) on their current approaches, and discussions on how to move forward will take place at this meeting. Conveners also suggest such an effort to be extended to other small system collisions in general.
6) Reminder: Call for volunteers
- Task force for tuning PYTHIA8 (HF, JetCorr, SPIN)
- Task force for evaluating tracking efficiency uncertainty (1 per PWG if interested)
Conclusions: conveners will follow up on these calls.

2) Production status (Priority list)
- DAQ -> MuDst: Run17 pp 510 GeV what timestamp should be used to pick up latest BEMC calibration parameters if produced on Cori?
- MuDst -> PicoDst: AuAu54_production_2017 almost done. Need to confirm chain options for Run18 3.85 FXT (3.0) and 26.5, 27 FXT (7.2)
Conclusions: today (20201016) would be a good timestamp to use if Run17 pp 510 GeV production is moved to Cori. BSMD was not included in the run, so the associated chain option is not needed. The proposed chain option "y2018a btofMatch btofStartless btofCalib:btofFXT picoDst PicoVtxMode:PicoVtxFXT PicoCovMtxMode:PicoCovMtxWrite" looks good.
3) Call for volunteers
- Task force for tuning PYTHIA8
-- HF: Matt Kelsey (Chair), Yuanjing Ji, Jan Vanek, Qian Yang
-- Jet Corr: Hanseul Oh, Raghav Elayavalli
-- ColdQCD: Zilong Chang
- Task force for evaluating tracking efficiency uncertainty (1 per PWG if interested)
-- LFSUPC: Hui Liu, Zach Sweger
- Dedicated mailing lists are being created
Conclusions: once the mailing lists are created, they will be advertised to the collaboration.
4) Dedicated meeting on small system event activity: Nov. 10th, 10am - 12pm (tentative)
- Summary talks from HF, JetCorr, ColdQCD, FCV PWGs
- Discussion on how to converge and proceed
Conclusions: will confirm the meeting time with Grigory. It was also suggested to determine the fraction of total cross section for different event activity cuts.
AOB
- Will skip PWGC meeting for the next two weeks due to AUM and DNP
- Will host an editorial board meeting on Nov. 6th

- Feedback: analyzers will back them up on HPSS in the coming week, after which these data can be removed.
2) Data production
i) Isobar data production is about to start on RCF. PicoDst produced from MuDst with BEMC information will be saved. Run17 pp 510 GeV data production will be paused consequently.
ii) It is not efficient to produce Run17 pp 510 GeV data on Cori. One job takes more than 5 days to finish, while the job limit on Cori is 24-48 hours.
- BES-II and embedding jobs are more suitable for production on Cori.
3) MuDst and PicoDst replacement. Please respond before Nov. 9th.
i) The following old PicoDst production will be replaced with new ones
ii) Replace MuDst with PicoDst
- AuAu200_production_2011: 92% of PicoDst (SL19c) available on DD
Please let us know if you have any concerns about the proposed replacement/removal.
