virtual , at 20:00 (GMT), duration : 00:00

Minutes:
Tim reported on Gating Grid status
Crate has all modified modules. It was tested locally.
The web based script by Tonko does not seem to work after the upgrades. He is aware of it.
The polarity is swtiched at the connector for all.
The sector 8 is special and should be checked.

FV will contact David on the slow control of the gating grid; how should it be implemented?

Alexei has been working on laser system
- optics replaced; signal looks good
- started with alignment of akll rafters
- propbably will need another week

Software
- no discussion as some key people could not join the meeting today. There was a longer discussion on the run-19 alignment at the monthly S&C meeting
- It is of high priority to get this resolved; will have as agenda point next week

STAR PWGC meeting

2020-12-18 09:30
America/New York
Friday, 18 December 2020
https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 14:30 (GMT), duration : 00:00
1) Paper preview: Di-pi^0 correlations in p+p, p+Al, and p+Au collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV at STAR
- Brief introduction from the PWG conveners (5’) [Matt Posik]
- Paper proposal (15')  [Presentation by Xiaoxuan Chu]
- Open discussions (35')
- Summary from the conveners' panel (5’)

Proposal page: https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/blog/xchu/dipi0-correlation-paper-proposal
Analysis note: https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/dipi0Corr_note_v1.pdf

NOTES

2) Isobar data status: production, QA and centrality
- production: the completion might happen next Feb. Now 25% completed. A few interruptions recently.
- QA: no QA is done for the ongoing production since the production library is exactly the same as Phase-2.
- Centrality: Grigory contacted relevant people who worked on isobar centrality before, and is currently waiting for responses. Will work with production team later to give them access to data that are being produced.

Conclusion: PAC will follow up with Grigory to make sure the centrality classification is done in a timely fashion.

3) Data production/restoration discussion (
priority)
i)
2005 Cu+Cu data (cuProductionMinBias and cuProductionHighTower): ~83k MuDst files are requested to be restored by the system. Is there anyone using them?
- Corresponding PicoDst files were/will be restored

Conclusion: it was proposed to halt the MuDst restoration for 2005 Cu+Cu data and remove all the MuDst files from the distributed disk. No objections were raised.

ii)
 New requests for data restoration
a)
 LFSUPC: st_upc MuDst files, AuAu_200_production_2014, AuAu_200_production_low/mid/high_2014, AuAu_200_production_2016, AuAu200_production2_2016
b)
 Cold QCD: st_physics, st_fms, MuDst files, dAu200_production_2016
c) HF: st_physics, PicoDst files, AuAu_200_production_2016, P16ij_SL20c

Conclusion: the LFSUPC and ColdQCD requests are added to the end of the queue as the default, while the HF request is granted higher priority since three analyses at advanced stages are waiting for the data to proceed.

iii) New request for data production
a) Run17 pp 510 GeV st_rp stream to apply the latest space charge corrections

Conclusion: will discuss with the production team to see if this request can be produced on Cori.

4)
Analysis meeting: PWG report or analysis highlight
- PWG report: Cold QCD
- Analysis highlight: HF

Conclusion: FCV, CF and LFSUPC decided to have PWG reports, while JetCorr is not decided yet.

5) Followup discussions:
- List of express production on HLT farm to keep. Disk space needs to be freed before Run21 starts.

Conclusion: Dan Cebra has drafted a list of data sets to be kept with specified number of events. See the list here: LIST. Also included in the list is the proposed new priority for BES-II data sets. Conveners will take a look at the proposal and bring the discuss to the PWG if needed.

Next PWGC meeting:
 Jan. 15th

Happy Holidays!

STAR PWGC meeting

2021-01-15 09:30
America/New York
Friday, 15 January 2021
https://bnl.zoomgov.com/j/1619294511?pwd=TkRhZzFjOWZSQnpvUVdGUGFVMmlHdz09, at 14:30 (GMT), duration : 00:00
1) Proposal of Run17 pp 510 GeV data production after Isobar is finished:
Phase I: st_physics + st_rp concurrently for about 1 month
Phase II: st_physics alone until completed
Phase III: st_rp + st_mtd concurrently until completed

Conclusions: conveners agree with the proposed production strategy for Run17 pp 510 GeV

2) Proton feed-down correction slides

Conclusions: Xiaofeng presented an overview of the drawbacks in the published primordial proton spectra based on UrQMD+GEANT
for feed-down correction, and two other analyses using these published spectra. The feed-down correction based on UrQMD+GEANT is different from that based on recently published strange hadron yields (PRC 102 (2020) 34909) both in magnitude and collision energy dependence. A few action items to followup:
- Collect inclusive proton spectra at BES-I energies used in R_cp PRL paper, and compare them to PRC 96 (2017) 44904 and PRC 101 (2020) 24905. This is to understand differences and systematics
- Compare to proton spectra published by other collaborations, e.g. NA49, at relevant energies
- Continue to discuss how to release the primordial proton spectra with feed-down correction based on measured strange hadron yields

3) Data restoration request: priority list
Cold QCD: Run17 pp 510 GeV st_physics, P20ic MuDst, RunList

Conclusions: the Cold QCD PWG will check whether the jet trees produced for st_physics during data production can fulfill analyzers' needs. If so, there is no need to restore the requested MuDst at the moment

4) Discussion: proposal from Dan
- List of express production on HLT farm to keep. Disk space needs to be freed before Run21 starts.
- Revisit BES-II production priority

Conclusions:
- the convener panel agrees with Dan's proposal in terms of what datasets to keep on pwg_tasks space from HLT express production. The list will be forwarded to the TFG to take action.
- the BES-II
data production priority (priority list) is modified according to Dan's proposal with some minor adjustments

5) Collaboration meeting, March 1-12, ~9am - 2pm BNL time
  • Mar. 1-5: parallel sessions
  • Mar. 8-12: plenary sessions
Conclusions: will organize parallel sessions to avoid conflicts with Juniors' Day if it takes place

st_physics: 2018
st_pmdftp: 2969
st_upc: 15866
st_upsilon: 111
st_zerobias: 8341

Conclusions: the st_upc stream will be kept on distributed disk without restoring the missing files, while all other non-st_physics streams will be removed.

NOTES

2) Data production and calibration

Isobar
- DAQ -> PicoDst mostly done. Reprocess failed jobs now.
- PicoDst transfer to DD already started. About 15% done.
- pi/K/P embedding will start soon
- plan for non-cme analyzers: suggest to announce to the collaboration once data are restored to distributed disk

Conclusions: will announce to the collaboration when the PicoDst files are transferred to distributed disk. However, before the CME paper is submitted, i) no analyses that could possibly be used to infer CME signals will be shown as preliminary; ii) the convener panel should be informed of any preliminary results based on the Isobar data even if they are not related to CME in any way

MuDst->PicoDst
- Will resume Run14 AuAu production soon

Run17 pp 510 GeV
- Will resume soon.
- Production plan:
-- Phase I: st_physics + st_rp concurrently for about 1 month
-- Phase II: st_physics alone until completed
-- Phase III: st_rp + st_mtd concurrently until completed

BES-II calibration
- TPC alignment remains the bottleneck
- TPC calibration review underway
-- Expected outcome: either conclude with the available calibration or find some solution to improve the calibration, then proceed with the BES-II production. The review focus is on the BES-II dataset
-- Time line: end of March

3) Shall we count the 3M 7.7 GeV events taken in 2020 towards the 100M goal? Do analyzers foresee to use this portion of the data?

Conclusions: suggest to include the 7.7 GeV data taken in 2020 towards the 100M goal. These data can be used once produced.

4) Collaboration meeting: physics highlight talks from PWGs

Conclusions: conveners will follow up on this

No PWGC meeting next week
