Manpower Situation

Clear shortage in all areas



• Infrastructure, particularly STAF: No full time support maintenance for 30 FTE-months. Addressing this through BNL hires. Principal role of BNL core staff will be infrastructure. Other areas much more amenable to finding manpower in the institutes.
• Simulation and Reconstruction
  • Simulation: 13.5 FTEs is estimated total, including overlap with other areas (calib, production,…). Present activity ~50%? Assessment of current coverage and holes must be completed
  • Reconstruction: Estimates show 9 additional FTEs to complete baseline by Fall 1999 (over and above 10 FTE estimate of present activity which includes no ‘productivity factor’ to account for these FTEs being spread thinly over many people)
• Physics analysis
  • Embryonic

Expressed intent for computing involvement: 101 people in survey of institutes
